assn 4 - Grade 7 french

Title of activity: Christmas songs

Reference to URL of online resource: http://www.alapetiteecole.com/chansons/

Grade level: 7

Subject: French

Brief description of activity: Students will go to this website where they will find a variety of christmas songs. The words are given in french and the tune of the song is played. We would sing the songs together and learn new vocabulary as well as review already known vocabulary. The first song I would choose that is well known is "Le petit renne au nez rouge" which is Rudolph the red nose reindeer. This would be used when we are studying the christmas holidays after we have already learned some vocabulary and important information. The students would be evaluated on their participation, pronunciation, and possibly a quiz on new vocabulary learned from the songs.

General learner outcome:
· Students will apply vocabulary and language concepts with a higher level accuracy.

Specific learner outcome:
· Students will demonstrate understanding of key words and ideas in simple, concrete, or adapted or authentic written texts.

List of the most relevant ICT outcomes:
· P5 1.2 – access hyper linked sites on an intranet or the internet
· C6.1.3 - use technology to support and present conclusions
· C7.1.3 - draw conclusions from organized information

Why use technology? This website gives a variety of christmas songs that would be great for students to learn as something fun and to learn new vocabulary. They could use their knowledge of the songs in english to decipher the meaning of words in french. This site also plays the tune of the song so that we can sing along. It would be cheaper an easier than buying a cd of french songs and this way the kids would have to read the words and pronounce them on their own instead of listening and copying from a cd.

Hi Kirstie!

This is a great website- especially for the age group you specified.

If anything, perhaps you could (as a teacher) be a little bit more specific on what you want your Grade 7 student(s) to do (where they could start). There are so many activites that it could get overwhelming!

Good job =)
